Di Maria reveals Juventus contract talks after Freiburg winner

Angel Di Maria revealed he is in talks with Juventus over a new contract after his header saw off Freiburg in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

The Argentina international settled the opening leg at the Allianz Stadium when he powered home Filip Kostic s 53rd-minute cross for his fourth goal in this season s competition.

Di Maria, who also netted a hat-trick against Nantes in the previous round, has now been directly involved in seven goals in his last six European appearances.

The 35-year-old endured an injury-hit start to life in Turin after signing a 12-month deal last July, but has already registered 10 goal involvements in 2023 (seven goals, three assists).

Bruno Fernandes and Toulouse s Branco van den Boomen are the only other midfie…

Brisbane Roar 0-2 Western United: Berisha on target as Fowler´s men sink further into the mire

Besart Berisha piled the pain on former club Brisbane Roar as Western United earned a clinical 2-0 win at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

The A-League s all-time leading goalscorer scored twice in last weekend s 3-1 triumph over Melbourne Victory and came back to haunt another of his old teams in Queensland.

Left unmarked, Berisha skilfully turned Aaron Calver s cross past Jamie Young to double United s advantage on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors had gone ahead in the 11th minute when the excellent Alessandro Diamanti picked out Connor Pain s run to the back post.

Brisbane dominated possession but created next to nothing going forward, with Filip Kurto only forced to make one real save from Roy O Donovan.

Robbie Fowler s side, hammered 5-1 at Sy…

Barca linked to Diego Alves

Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves, Catalan daily newspaper Sport has revealed.

The Catalans have yet to find a replacement for Victor Valdes, and are currently looking at a number of high-profile shot-stoppers.

Sport understands that Valencia s Diego Alves has been added to the hit-list following some impressive displays at Mestalla.

The Brazilian has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season, but los Che have yet to offer him a new deal despite his current contract expiring in June 2015.

Barcelona could try and take advantage of the situation as that would allow them to sign the 28-year-old on a cut-price deal.

Diego Alves joined Valencia from Almeria in the summer of 2011 and went on to make 59…

Newcastle land Kenedy loan

Premier League strugglers Newcastle United have secured a loan deal for Chelsea starlet Kenedy, Daily mail understands.

The Blues winger is set to join the Magpies once the January transfer window opens after a failed attempt from Rafa Benitez to land the Brazilian forward during the summer market.

Antonio Conte decided he needed Kenedy at Stamford Bridge for the new 2017/18 season but given that the 21-year-old only made three EFL appearances for the Blues, Chelsea manager is now prepared to let the starlet leave on loan in order to help the player gain regular first-team action.

Rafa Benitez is said to be a long-term admirer of the talented Brazilian and is keen to introduce Kenedy as the first-team choice on the left flank, where Newcastle have big problems.<…

VAR is a Luton fan – Forest hit out at PGMOL after ‘poor decisions’ at Everton

Nottingham Forest have accused VAR Stuart Attwell of being a Luton fan after feeling they were on the wrong end of “three extremely poor decisions” during Sunday’s 2-0 Premier League defeat at Everton.

Forest posted on X, formerly Twitter, soon after full-time that they were considering their options, having “warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him”, adding that their patience had now been “tested multiple times” this season.

The relegation-threatened midlands club were furious not to be awarded spot-kicks by Anthony Taylor for challenges on Giovanni Reyna and Callum Hudson-Odoi by Ashley Young, who in the meantime had looked fortunate to escape a handball decision, with Attwell backing the referee.

Dortmund to offer Kagawa new contract

Shinji Kagawa will be offered a new Borussia Dortmund contract, sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a strong run of performances for Thomas Tuchel s side after struggling for form and fitness in the early part of the season.

Dortmund have been impressed by the Japan international s ability to deliver under pressure in recent weeks and will speak with him about extending his deal, which is said to expire next year.

There will be talks with him and his agent, Zorc told Kicker.  We will see in what direction it goes.

We ve noticed that he played well. Shinji did turn it around and delivers strong performances under pressure.

Kagawa, who returned to Dortmund from Manchester United in August 2014, has managed t…

Newcastle United sign striker Osula from Sheffield United

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Danish striker William Osula from Sheffield United for a reported £15million.

The 21-year-old comes to St James Park with limited Premier League experience, having made 21 appearances last season for the Blades, including nine starts, though he failed to find the net in the top flight.

Osula, who has five caps for Denmark s Under-21s, did show his goal-scoring credentials in the FA Cup, however, scoring three goals in two games last season.

The forward, who can also play on either flank, has expressed his excitement at the move to the north east.

It s a big club, a great club, so I m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle, he said.

It s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Ne…

Why Your Team Sucks 2014: Cleveland Browns

Some people are fans of the Cleveland Browns. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Cleveland Browns. This 2014 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group.
Your team: (sigh)
Your 2013 record: 4-12. And you know what? Things didn't start off THAT bad last season for Cleveland. They kicked Brandon Weeden to the curb after two weeks in favor of Brian Hoyer, who played really well in two consecutive victories. They traded Trent Richardson, a move that now looks monumentally shrewd, given that Trent Richardson is terrible (without that pick, the Browns would not have been able to draft Weeden's successor). Rob Chudzinski looked mildly competent (even though the team's first choice, Chip Kelly, spurned them, which will become a running theme …

Please Join Me in Overreacting to Bol Bol's Scrimmage Performance

data-mm-id=”_qazqow00t”>Basketball was on television today. Yes, real basketball! The NBA kicked off a slew of scrimmages today with the Los Angeles Clippers taking on the Orlando Magic on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, in a court next door, the Denver Nuggets took on the Washington Wizards with this hilarious starting five. Omfg pic.twitter.com/wGeLcX1gxK— John Hollinger (@johnhollinger) July 22, 2020As you can see, Bol Bol started in what amounted to his first-ever NBA "game." Bol was in the midst of rehab when the 2019-20 season started and played well in the G League, but never saw a minute in any of the Nuggets' regular-season games before the season was postponed. For the most part, this is the first time a larger audience has watched Bol play basketball since h…
